πŸš¨πŸ’§ Chikara Borehole Project Paused β€” What Really Went Wrong

A serious development Nigerians need to understand clearly.

There is a very serious issue unfolding around a community water project in Chikara, near Abaji β€” and Nigerians need to understand what truly happened.

This borehole was meant to be the fourth successful community intervention handled by the same trusted team that has completed three projects elsewhere. These are people VDM personally works with and trusts on community projects.

After a viral cry-out from the Chikara community over years of water scarcity, a borehole project was initiated. ₦10 million was projected for the work.

The first contractor failed and refunded the money after being called out. Funds were raised again, and drilling started afresh.

A few days ago, videos confirmed that water was successfully struck. Everyone was hopeful.

But when the team returned to complete the work, things took a disturbing turn.

After water was hit:

– A generator that had been working for days suddenly knocked without warning. – A replacement generator later caught fire. – Despite setbacks, flushing was still completed.

When the team attempted to install the solar pump, the borehole had mysteriously backfilled with sand and mud β€” turning it into a sedimentary borehole and making installation impossible.

Then came the most disturbing part.

Members of the community reportedly approached the team privately, insisting that sacrifices or β€œthanksgiving” had to be made to the land for the water to remain.

Items and rituals were suggested. The team refused completely.

The community had earlier assured the team that everything was settled and the project was welcome β€” yet after water was struck, spiritual demands suddenly surfaced.

VDM’s team came with clean intentions. Money was contributed by people who genuinely wanted to help. No one came prepared to perform rituals or sacrifices.

One of the team members returned severely ill from the site. The stress, confusion, and health impact alone show how serious the situation became.

At this point, the project has been paused.

If a community does not want water unless rituals are performed, then help cannot be forced.

This is a painful reminder that not every problem can be solved with money alone. Development efforts can be sabotaged from within when belief systems clash with humanitarian work.

VDM has made it clear: they did not come to harm themselves β€” they came to help.

Next steps will be carefully considered.
