It has been widely reported that Nigeria’s Senate President — and the number three man in the country — Godswill Akpabio was rushed out of Nigeria after collapsing due to a medical emergency and flown to London for treatment.

First, this must be said clearly: VDM hopes he survives.

Not out of sympathy — but because his survival exposes something far deeper than emotion: the hypocrisy of leadership in Nigeria.

Make it make sense.

The third–highest–ranking official in Nigeria could not be treated in a single hospital within the country he helps govern. Not Abuja. Not Lagos. Not any federal medical center.

Instead, he was flown abroad — reportedly via private jet — to London.

This is a man with:

• The power to influence legislation
• The power to push healthcare reforms
• The power to allocate budgets
• The power to fix emergency response systems

Yet when his own life was on the line, Nigeria was not an option.

That is the real national disgrace.

This is not about one man’s illness — it is about a system that leaders themselves do not trust.

For decades, Nigerian leaders have:

• Refused to build world–class hospitals
• Neglected emergency response systems
• Watched healthcare collapse
• Allowed doctors to flee abroad
• Ignored public hospitals

But when they fall sick — they run.

They flee the same broken system they forced on over 200 million Nigerians.

In functional nations, leaders are treated in their own hospitals — because those systems work and they trust them.

In Nigeria, leaders extract from the country, protect themselves, improve their private lives — and abandon the people.

Nigerians are heavily taxed. Yet roads are broken. Hospitals are failing. Schools are collapsing. Clean water is unavailable. Doctors are striking. Teachers are frustrated.

And still, leaders speak of imposing more taxes.

What has been done with the taxes already collected?

Until that question is answered, silence should not be expected.

VDM’s message is simple:

Survive.
